RCDE put Simplon’s gravel e-bike to the test 

A road bike for all eventualities: a gravel bike. A gravel bike for even more eventualities: a gravel e-bike by Simplon. RCDE took a closer look at the forest, grass and gravel racer with its barely visible drive unit. Read the test review and find out which inner and outer qualities of the bike have impressed the experts!
 

First impressions … 

"With the new Inissio Pmax, Simplon has managed to seamlessly and almost invisibly integrate the components necessary for the e-drive unit." That’s how the testers of roadcycling.de described their first impressions. Neither the motor nor the battery are immediately discernible. Only by taking a closer look at the details, you can see the differences to the Inissio without drive unit, such as the control knob on the top tube or the charging socket in the bottom bracket area. 

As is typical for a gravel bike, the Simplon Inissio Pmax has numerous mounting options for a luggage rack and mudguards, which is immensely convenient if you plan to go on bikepacking adventures, bike holidays or weekend trips.
 

The ebikemotion hub motor by Mahle 

The integrated ebikemotion hub motor has a torque of 40 nm and thus ensures constant basic support when riding uphill. Very important: It doesn’t completely remove the rider from the equation, i.e. you still have to do part of the work. And pedalling is something you’ll still have to and will be able to do. 

Not only design-wise, but also acoustically, you’ll hardly be able to notice the drive unit: According to the experts, "The sound of the transmission never becomes bothersome." With 250 Wh and on a moderately demanding route, the battery lasts for up to 80 kilometres. However, the capacity can be further increased with a second battery pack mounted to the bottle cage. 
 

The target group 

Some people ask themselves why a drive unit is necessary at all in the athletic road bike sector – RCDE correctly answered this in a nutshell: The gravel e-bike certainly has a right to exist – for instance, in case of unequal training partners, commuters who want to ride to work without getting sweaty, or athletes with an injury who want to be able to go on longer rides again.
 

RCDE’s verdict 

"Even with the greatest reservations, anyone who has ever ridden an e-bike as carefully designed as the Simplon Inissio Pmax must admit: This built-in tailwind is simply fun!" And not only that. Stylish design and high-quality workmanship are typical of Simplon and simply: "excellent and impeccable".
