First ride by Velomotion: Rapcon Pmax

The new Rapcon Pmax was put through a first check by Velomotion. What stood out was the bike’s variability, design and technical finesse. To the test review!

First ride: Simplon Rapcon Pmax

Velomotion tested the new e-fully

Velomotion tested the Simplon Rapcon Pmax at the Eurobike 2019. The conclusion: The e-fully offers lots of variability, is rich in technical finesse and – on top of that – it’s quite the eyecatcher. What other advantages does the e-mountain bike crafted in Simplon’s workshop have to offer? Let’s find out!

Wheel size and suspension travel – variability wins

There are countless options for configurating your Simplon bike. The same goes for the Rapcon Pmax. Wheel sizes and suspension travel can be configured according to preference: “From 2.6’’-wide 29’’ wheels to B+ or semi-fat tyres, the chainstays can handle almost anything.” (Velomotion). With the Flip Chip Low (29-inchers in the front and in the rear) or the Flip Chip High (29-inchers in the front and 27.5’’ in the rear), the geometry can be perfectly adjusted to different wheel sizes. The choice is yours in terms of suspension travel, too: 150 mm to 170 mm are possible in the front.

Convincing: the design

It’s not all about looks – true! However, the Rapcon Pmax impressed the jury with its design as well: “The Simplon Rapcon Pmax is among the most beautiful e-fullies out there.” The slender down tube, the harmonious angles and shapes and the air vents at the top tube / frame junction make the bike quite the eyecatcher.

Drive unit and battery – full speed ahead!

Integrated in the carbon MTB: the new Performance Line CX drive unit by Bosch. On the trail and on challenging tours, it gives you a powerful boost. What stands out positively: the option to mount an additional 500-Wh battery on the down tube. If you don’t need it, you can mount a bottle cage with click-on adapter instead.

The acid test – how the Rapcon Pmax behaves on the trail

Velomotion put the Rapcon Pmax through the acid test and hit the trails with it. The impression the testers got, was overwhelmingly positive: The drive unit boasts an impressive level of power. It tackles steep and challenging climbs with ease. And downhill, you can “really let it rip”, according to Velomotion. The agile riding behaviour of the Rapcon Pmax gives you lots of room to play.
